- Under §6(1)(a) of the Citizenship Act 1977 (1977 No 61), every person born in New Zealand on or after 1 January 1949 and before 1 January 2006 is automatically a New Zealand citizen by birth (the 'pur Citizenship Act 1977 §29 extends the entire Act (including §6 jus soli rules) to the Cook Islands and Niue (by mutual consent under Article 46 Cook Islands Constitution + Article 36 Niue Constitution)
