General Employment Policy (GEP): quota-free, non-sector-specific residence route requiring a genuine job offer commensurate with the applicant's qualifications, which cannot be readily filled locally, at market-rate remuneration. Initial stay is 36 months on employment condition (or contract duration if shorter); extension pattern 3-2 years.   • Yes — if the employer demonstrates a genuine vacancy that cannot be readily filled locally and the applicant has the relevant qualifications/experience, a GEP employment visa can be granted; continuous ordinary residence on this visa can accrue toward the 7-year PR route.

    GEP approval requires employer sponsorship and a genuine-vacancy test each renewal — it is not an automatic multi-year guarantee; PR itself only follows after a full continuous 7 years.

  • Yes — spouse and minor children of a GEP visa holder can typically apply for dependant visas (HK-DEP-01) to accompany him, subject to standard dependant-visa criteria and his ability to support them.

    Dependant status is derivative of his continuing GEP status; if his employment visa lapses, dependant status is directly affected.
