A citizen of full age and capacity who, for the purpose of becoming a citizen of another country, makes and registers in the prescribed manner a declaration of renunciation of Saint Lucia citizenship ceases to be a citizen as from the date of registration (Citizenship of Saint Lucia Act, Cap. 1.04, s.10(1); Constitution s.103(c)). Voluntary, citizen-initiated loss; effect runs from registration, not signing. Wartime restriction: where during a war Saint Lucia is engaged a declaration by a person about to become a citizen of another country does not take effect without the Minister's consent (s.10(2)). A citizen of full age and capacity may make a declaration of renunciation under s.10; the Minister registers it and citizenship ceases on registration. Saint Lucia otherwise permits dual citizenship, so renunciation is voluntary, typically to satisfy another state's single-nationality rule.
