There are no live eligibility criteria, because the route is spent: a person cannot newly 'apply' to be restored under the 1974 metapolitefsi measure. Historically, the affected class was persons who held Greek nationality, were denationalised for political reasons by the 1967-1974 regime, and were alive at the 1974 transition — they had their Greek status reinstated as part of the general reversal of junta acts. The class was closed by 1974-75.

No language or civics test attaches to this route. The 1974 restoration reinstated existing nationals' citizenship and imposed no examination. The Greek civic-knowledge examination (ΠΕΓΠ) and Art 5A integration conditions belong to ordinary naturalisation tracks (e.g. GR-NAT routes) and are irrelevant to a restoration that operated automatically for the junta-deprived cohort.

No documentary checklist applies to a live application because none exists today. For the documentary record, the cohort's restoration is evidenced through the metapolitefsi-era constitutional acts and government measures reversing junta acts, and through individual biographies (e.g. Mercouri). A modern descendant proving Greek nationality relies instead on ordinary descent evidence — the restored ancestor's Greek registration/municipal record — under route GR-DSC-01, not on any GR-RST-01 form. Practical guidance as of 2026: if you are a descendant of someone the 1967-1974 junta exiled and denationalised, do NOT look for a 'metapolitefsi restoration' application — there is none. Establish that your ancestor was Greek (their status was reinstated in 1974) and claim Greek nationality through ordinary descent (GR-DSC-01); if the ancestor's Greek record is hard to document and you are of Greek ethnic origin, ομογενής naturalisation (Art 10) is the exceptional fallback. Never rely on a cited 'restoration decree number' — none is verifiable.

The restoration was effected rapidly as part of the 1974 transition's first measures and was essentially complete by 1974-75; there is no ongoing processing timeline because the cohort is closed. No statutory or administrative processing-time figure attaches to a live GR-RST-01 application, as none exists as of 2026.

No fee schedule applies, because there is no live application: the 1974 restoration was a government act of the democratic transition, not a fee-bearing individual procedure. A modern descendant pursuing Greek nationality does so under ordinary descent (GR-DSC-01) or, exceptionally, ομογενής naturalisation (Art 10), each carrying its own ordinary administrative costs that are documented under those routes, not here.

The junta did NOT enact a bespoke 'cessation statute' to denationalise opponents; it used pre-existing instruments — chiefly the ex-Article 19 of ΝΔ 3370/1955 (the allogeneis-deprivation provision then in force 1955-1998) together with its own Constituent Acts (Συντακτικές Πράξεις) of 1967-68 and individual ministerial measures against named persons. The 1974 restoration therefore reversed acts taken under those pre-existing powers rather than repealing a dedicated junta law.

Historically the restoration was a matter of the transition government and its constitutional-act framework (the Karamanlis cabinet from 24 July 1974), with citizenship matters administered through the Ministry of the Interior. As of 2026 no authority accepts or processes a GR-RST-01 application because the route is spent; ordinary nationality matters for descendants are handled by the competent Decentralised Administration / Ministry of the Interior under the standard Code.

Edge case — the descendant of a junta-era exile: a person born after 1974 to a restored Greek parent is Greek by ordinary descent (Art 1), because the parent's Greek status was reinstated; the metapolitefsi act is merely the reason the parent was Greek, not a route the child invokes. Edge case — an exile who died before 1974: restoration operated for persons alive at the transition; a deceased exile's line is assessed on whether the ancestor was Greek at the relevant child's birth under ordinary descent rules.
